“Fernandez was convicted of felony...but has repeatedly stated publicly that it was only a misdemeanor charge.”
As a Board member, Fernandez serves his own self-interest instead of those of the students of CVESD, inappropriately using District funds to treat himself to $225 meals (including a $47 Rack of Lamb) and other lavish expenses while on junkets purportedly representing CVESD in San Francisco, Austin Texas, and Washington DC, having run up over $11,000 in travel expenses since he was first appointed to the CVESD Board in 2021.
The recall petition against Fernandez alleges he uses his position to advance his own political agenda and manipulate the appointment process in favor of his friends. The petition also accuses Fernandez in helping muzzle the voices of parents at School Board meetings by disallowing remote participation
This lawsuit raises the question of whether Cesar Fernandez failed to declare a conflict of interest in voting to hire Reyes as Superintendent after his appointment to the Board.
The school district has failed to get the lawsuit dismissed, so there will be more to come.
